Hello!
Art is the language I understand, it is how I communicate. Art feeds my soul—the infinite pleasure from viewing or participating in art. My happiest moments are when I am in the presence of beautiful art, I can only hope to give someone else that gift by sharing my own.
Nature too, gives me great comfort, having the sense that we are of nature rather than seeing ourselves as separate. Nature allows me to gain perspective and being rewarded with calm, mindfulness and being present—Stop ... Reflect ...
My relationship with art and nature gives me the motivation to be an artist. I enjoy creating art and piecing together elements of my visual experience, the inter-connectedness between place, memory and emotion. My ideas lay in wait until the medium best to use represents itself. My preferred art medium is printmaking; I mix up the techniques and experiment. The key elements to my work are mark-making and colours. The prints are constructions of sight, recollection and careful planning. I am drawn to vibrant colours, contrast and composition, and I often use colours from the moment.
My styles vary from expressionistic and intuitive abstracts to very tight, almost botanical pieces. But the colours are always the main thread to my work. Continuous line is a method I use predominantly when plein-air sketching; it’s a motion, a way to seize the spirit of the moment.
I hope you enjoy my work as much as I have enjoyed creating it!
